Obituary of Benjamin Neri
Benjamin "Benny" Neri, 75, of Amsterdam, peacefully passed away after a long illness on September 28, 2017 at his home, surrounded by the warmth and love of family and friends at his side. He was born on June 29, 1942 in Amsterdam, the son of the late Julius Neri and Rose (Sinatra) Neri.
Benny was a 1961 graduate of Wilbur H Lynch High School. He was a teamster, Local 294, truck driver for 30 years and he was the managing member of the Galway Co-op for several years. Benny was a lifelong member of the YMCA and Knights of Columbus. He had a strong passion for health and fitness, and was enjoying this baseball season with his beloved New York Yankees. Benny embraced his Roman Catholic faith. He served his church as a Eucharistic Minister and an Acolyte.
Benny faced his illness with graciousness and courage, knowing he'd be greeted at the gates of Heaven by his Savior Jesus Christ and his son Ricky.
He was preceded in death by his son Richard 'Ricky' Marsh, and his brother, Bruno Neri.
Benny is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Anita (Orapello) Neri; son, Dr. Ronald Marsh and daughter-in-law Theresa Marsh; daughter, Annamarie Neri and son-in-law Michael Casadei; three cherished grandchildren, Dr. Benjamin Marsh of San Francisco, Midori Marsh of New York City, and Veronica Marsh of New York City. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 7, 2017 at 12:15 PM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday October 7, 2017 prior to the funeral mass from 11:00AM to 12:00 Noon at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. It was Benny's wish that flowers be omitted and In lieu of flowers donations be made in his memory to Dr. Tom Catena's Mission Work- Sudan Relief Fund, 3220 N. Street NW, Suite 302, Washington, D.C. 20007 USA.
