Obituary of Marguerite E. Sawicki
Mrs. Marguerite E. Sawicki, 90, of Schenectady, New York died peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 7, 2017. Born in Cohoes, NY she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marguerite Normandin LaMothe.
Marguerite grew up in Amsterdam, NY and graduated from St. Margaret's Catholic School in Rotterdam. She worked locally for the Home for Babies in Albany, NY, Amsterdam Memorial Hospital in Amsterdam, NY and later St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, NY as a nurse's aide. In 1974 she moved to Owensboro, Kentucky, where she worked as an Office Manager for the Carmel Nursing Home.
On September 27, 1947 she was united in marriage to Zygfryd Sawicki. That union lasted 46 years until his passing on July 4, 1993. She was also predeceased by her siblings, George LaMothe, Teresa Cronin, Betty Ann Rataczack; and one granddaughter Kathleen Crowe.
Marguerite was a parishioner of St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church in Rotterdam Junction and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her 10 children, Richard Szurek and his partner Richard Musick of Ballston Spa, NY, Marguerite E. Sawicki of Schenectady, NY, Rosanne Magagnos of Schenectady, NY, Gwendolyn Cole and her husband John of Glenville, NY, Mary Zeglen and her husband Joseph of Scotia, NY, Michael Sawicki and his wife Linda of Amsterdam, NY, Christopher Sawicki and his wife Kimberly of Charlton, NY, John Sawicki and his wife Deborah of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Timothy Sawicki of Schenectady, NY and Annette Stone and her husband James of Haubstat, IN; 20 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 7p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 9 Trinity Place, Amsterdam, NY. A gathering for family and friends will take place prior to the service beginning at 6p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 9:30a.m. at St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church, 1228 Main Street, Rotterdam Junction, New York. Burial will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Carmel Nursing Home, 2501 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303
