Obituary of Nelson E. Bassett
Nelson E. Bassett, age 87, of Gloversville, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
He was born June 19, 1930 in Charleston, the son of Earl and Melvina Hazzard Bassett. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 and was later employed as a glove-cutter by Templeton Gloves in Fonda. He was employed as a custodian by City National Bank of Gloversville for over 20 years until his retirement.
Nelson was married to Estella TenEyck on June 29, 1958. She died on January 14, 2012.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert Bassett (Ella) of Fort Johnson and George Bassett of Nevada; a sister, Gladys Wilkes of Fort Johnson; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his very best friends, David Slade and Sharon Varney; niece Donna Pierce and his loving companion black cat Georgie Ann Number Two.
He was also predeceased by his parents and brother, Leon Bassett; and sisters, Bernice Damico, Margaret Anderson and Helen Clark.
Private burial will take place next to his wife at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
