Obituary of Samuel Richard Pettit
Samuel Richard Pettit, Sr; age 57, of Gloversville, died Wednesday evening, October 18, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a long illness.
He was born December 8, 1959 in Amsterdam, the son of William and Hope Hayes Pettit. He was employed for about ten years Elton Leather until it closed, then for over ten years at Washburn's Dairy and also worked at Walmart Distribution and the Walmart Store.
Sam was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge. He was an avid bowler in several leagues at Perry Lanes. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Carla L. Dutcher Pettit; four children, Shannon Courtney (Daniel) of Gloversville, Samuel Pettit Jr. (Keira) of Johnstown, Christopher Pettit (Christine) of Mayfield and Joseph Pettit of Johnstown; two stepdaughters, Linda Lewis (Scott) of Florida and Jennifer Kilcullen of Gloversville; his brothers and sisters, Kathy Ryle (Ed Blazer) of Gloversville, Patricia Pettit of Gloversville, Sharon VanNostrand of Gloversville, Hope Creglis (Warren) of Gloversville, Ellen Lair (Rick) of Caroga Lake, William Pettit (Nancy) of Gloversville, Peter Pettit (Donna) of Gloversville, Joseph Pettit (Linda) of Gloversville and Jacque Pettit of Gloversville. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 4 great-granddaughters, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind his dog, Nash.
He was predeceased by his parents, also by a brother, Michael Pettit and a granddaughter, Andrea Pettit.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 11am to 1pm Saturday, October 21 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Funeral Service will follow at 1:00pm.
Interment will take place at a later date at prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
