Obituary of Ethel A. Heiser

Mrs. Ethel A. Heiser, 91, formerly of Canajoharie, NY died peacefully on Sunday, October 22, 2017 surrounded by her family. Born in the Town of Canajoharie on April 24, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elva Dygert. A lifelong area resident, Ethel attended local schools and was a homemaker. She served as a tax consultant for H&R Block and was the Assessor for the Town of Canajoharie. In 2007 she moved to Rochester to be closer to her children. On November 25, 1944 she was united in marriage to Raymond Heiser. That union lasted 52 years until his passing on October 24, 1996. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Tina May Heiser; her grandson, Gregory Heiser; and her siblings, James Dygert and Eugenia Desmond. Survivors include her three children, Evelyn Schafer of Rochester, NY, Thomas Heiser and his wife Carolyn of Buffalo, NY, Patti Squier and her husband David of Palmyra, NY, and Jane Anello and her husband Joseph of Utica, NY; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Chad, Amy, Tyler, Kim, Ben and Julie; two great grandchildren, Jack and Luke; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A gathering for family and friends will take place prior to the service beginning at 1p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Fort Plain Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband. Ethel volunteered for Your Neighbors, an organization that provides support to families in need. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Your Neighbors, 110 Utica Road, Clinton, NY 13323.
