Obituary of Ronald Edward Bartman

Mr. Ronald E. Bartman, 63, of Windswept Drive, Amsterdam died suddenly on Sunday, October 29, 2017 with his family by his side. Born on June 1, 1954 he was the son of the late Albert and Dorothy Bartman. A lifelong area resident, Ron attended local schools and graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1972. He then went on to graduate from SUNY Geneseo with his B.A. in Speech Therapy and later SUNY Albany with a Master's Degree in Special Education. Ron was employed as an Educator with the Greater Amsterdam School District for 32 years. A community minded individual, Ron was a member of several organizations. He held various positions with the Amsterdam Teachers Association including President for 12 years. He was also a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of the Church Council and served on the Board of Directors for Fairview Cemetery. Following retirement, Ron volunteered for the Faith Soup Kitchen, the Regional Food Bank and the Catholic Charities Food Pantry. Ron enjoyed camping, vacationing with family and friends and special vacations on Martha's Vineyard. He was also an avid fisherman and played Volleyball with the Amsterdam Recreation Volleyball League. He was also an avid reader, who left stacks of books around his home. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nora Harrington Bartman; four children, Jeremy Bartman and his wife Sheena, Joshua Bartman and his wife Debra, Nathan Bartman and Caitlin Bartman; one sister, Sharon Kaszuba and her husband Ron; four grandchildren, Izabella, Connor, Evan and Lucas; his beloved extended Harrington family; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his grandson, Zachary Bartman; his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Anne Harrington; and his brothers-in-law, Marty Harrington and Billy Bernat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 o'clock at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. William T. Hodgetts Jr. officiating. Calling hours will be held this evening, Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 3p.m. until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
