Obituary of Milton F. Auspelmyer
Milton F. "Jimmy" Auspelmyer, 93, of Wolf Hollow Road passed away on Thursday, November 16th, 2017.
Born April 3, 1924 in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Milton F. and Elsie (Seamon) Auspelmyer. Jimmy lived a short time in Cleveland, Ohio and moved back to Amsterdam at the age of 16. At that time he rode his bicycle, his only personal possession, for 473 miles, 2 days and 3 nights back to Amsterdam while his mother took the bus. This ride made all the local newspapers. After graduating from Wilbur H. Lynch high School, Jimmy enlisted is the US Army and was attached to the 746th Tank Division where he was in the battles and campaigns of the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Sicily. For 38 years Jimmy was employed at General Electric Company in Schenectady retiring as an Electrical Forman in 1986. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.
Jimmy owned, built, repaired and rode Harley Davidson Motorcycles' until he reached the age of 91.Weather permitting he rode a tandem bicycle by himself between Scotia and Amsterdam every day until the age of 80. Besides his love for Harley Davidson motorcycles, he also enjoyed collecting rocks and digging at the Herkimer Diamond mines. On May 30, 1946 he married the former Ruth Meca who passed away after 65 years of wonderful marriage on May 2, 2012.
He is survived by his loving family, his son, Bruce (Deborah) Auspelmyer of Scotia; his three daughters, Patricia (Tyke) Kenyon of Johnstown, Ruth Wendy (Thomas) McGuigan of Pensacola, Florida and Nicolette Sitterly of Scotia; his sister, Eleanor Thompson of Philomath, Oregon; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at 2pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Neal Longe presiding. Burial will immediately follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, with Military Honors. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation one hour prior to the time of the funeral at the funeral home.
