Obituary of James J. Oare
Mr. James J. Oare, Sr. of Orchard Street, Gloversville, NY died peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Nathan Littauer Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Gloversville, New York on May 1, 1936 he was the son of the late Alton and Lorena Lorenzi Oare.
A lifelong area resident, James was a graduate of Gloversville High School. He later went on to earn a certificate from FMCC. Jim was employed for many years in leather manufacturing. Recently he was employed as a clerk with the Johnstown True Value Hardware Store. Jim served as a councilman for the 4th Ward of the City of Gloversville for two terms. He was also the Publicity Manager for The Juniorette Drill Team of Fulton County throughout the 1970's. Jim was an avid bowler and liked playing horseshoes. He was also an avid Yankee fan and had a green thumb. Jim also enjoyed riding in the Stratford Trails with his buddy Dale Keck on his side by side. Above all, he loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
On June 10, 1961 he was united in marriage to Karenlee Roberta Austin. That union lasted 54 years until her passing on November 16, 2015. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Mary Smith, Jean Wohlegemuth, Raymond Oare, Ethel Ambrosino and Sonny Oare.
Survivors include his sons James Joseph Oare, Jr. of Stratford, Christopher Thomas Oare (Laura) of Northville and Brian Alton Oare (Erin) of Broadalbin; daughters Debra Oare-Hockenberry of Gloversville, Diana Jean Putnam (Albert) of Broadalbin and Donnolee Joan Oare of Gloversville; his brothers, Paul Oare (Lori), Maryland Fredericks (Earl), John D. Oare of Portsmouth, Virginia; three sisters, Gloria Hawver (Robert) of Fort Plain, Marilyn Fredericks (Earl) of Palatine Bridge and Phyllis A Oare of Gloversville; grandchildren Brian Robert Hockenberry, Karenlee Hockenberry, Zackary Putnam, Jamie Hockenberry, Peter Hockenberry, Courteney Oare, Michaelyn Oare, Carina Oare, Austin Oare, Shane Oare and Gracelynn Oare; great grandchildren Aiden, Brayden and Carrigan; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 6p.m. at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Calling hours to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will take place on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to Mohawk Valley Dialysis Center, 115 Town Square Drive, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38101.
