Obituary of Frances M. Copp
Frances (Fran) M. Copp, of Amsterdam, NY, went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 5, 2017.
Born in Concord, NH, she was the daughter of the late Charles N. Winslow and Viola L. Stevens Winslow. Fran attended Concord High School and was employed by New England Telephone in Concord, prior to moving to Amsterdam in 1951.
Over the years, Fran enjoyed and excelled at waitressing at The Peter Schuyler Hotel, Chelsea House, Sleepy Dutchman, and Barney's. She always said that her waitressing enabled her to come to know and befriend so many people she would not have met otherwise. She worked for New York Telephone Co. from 1969, until retiring in 1989, as a Supervisory Assistant.
Fran was of the Christian faith and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amsterdam, where she sang in the choir. She loved music, and for years belonged to the Inman Singing Seniors, later known as the Amsterdam Singing Seniors, entertaining residents of local assisted living facilities. She was a self-taught pianist and guitarist. As a teen, she and her sisters, Polly and Rita, often sang on a radio program, with a band at local venues and in amateur talent shows, in their home town of Concord.
Survivors include her son, Mark Copp (Karen), of Whitesville, NY, daughters, Mindy F. Carr (Robert), of Amsterdam, and Kathleen A. Copp (Joseph Poma), of Malta, NY; grandchildren, Alex Copp (Prerna) and Samantha Copp; David Carr (Dally) and Debra Carr (Wm. Staley); Christopher Phillis (Jessica); Katie Ploss (Garth); greatgrandchildren, Pax Copp, Lucy and Robert Ploss; sisters, Marguerite Dwyer, of VA, Pauline Herrman, of MA, and Edith Muzzey, of ME.; life-long friend, Jan Wallace, Concord, NH; many nieces and nephews; and church family of First Baptist Church of Amsterdam.
She was predeceased by her former husband, Howard E. Copp, and her siblings, Charles Winslow, and Barbara Abbott.
A Service of Remembrance will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 12 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 479 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
