Obituary of Sally VanAlstyne
Sally Beninati VanAlstyne, 69, of Fultonville, New York, passed peacefully December 7th, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, with her devoted family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sally was born on September 22, 1948, in Ballston Spa, New York, the daughter of Jessie Edwards Beninati and the late Louis Beninati. Sally graduated from Ballston Spa High School and attended Fulton Montgomery Community College. She worked for many years at the former Beech Nut Nutrition Corporation in Canajoharie, New York. Sally was one of the kindest people in this world and lived her whole life graciously putting other people's needs before her own. Sally enjoyed spending as much time as she could at one of her favorite places, the Nubble Lighthouse in York Beach, Maine and loved watching the New York Yankees.
On her first day of college at FMCC, Sally met the love of her life and best friend Robert H. VanAlstyne. They were later married on October 5, 1968 and shared 49 loving years of marriage. In addition to her mother and husband, Sally is survived by her son, Robert L. "Boo" (Tammy) VanAlstyne of Fultonville, N.Y. Her daughter Tracy V.(Stephen) Russo of Johnstown, N.Y. Her grandsons: Robert W. VanAlstyne of Fultonville, N.Y., and Stephen, Benjamin, and Sebastian Russo all of Johnstown, N.Y. Her sisters Carol Bennett of Ballston Spa, N.Y. and LouAnn Beninati of Essex Junction, Vt. Her mother-in-law Helene VanAlstyne of Fultonville, N.Y., her brothers-in-law Larry VanAlstyne of Johnstown N.Y. and Jeffery VanAlstyne of Fultonville, N.Y., her sisters-in-law Suzanne (Gary) Hinkle of Fonda, N.Y, and MaryEllen (Vernon) Francisco of Fultonville, N.Y., along with many caring friends and extended family.
A Celebration of Sally's life will be held on Thursday December 14, 2017 at Jackson and Betz Family Funeral Home 15 Main St. Fultonville, N.Y. at 4:45 p.m. Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 p.m.
Special thanks to Dr. Sculco and all of the nurses St. Mary's Cancer Center, especially Ashley D. and Dana and the nurses of the intensive care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
