Obituary of Alma M. Deeg
Mrs. Alma M. Schnabel Deeg, 91, of Palatine Bridge, NY and formerly of Fort Plain, NY died peacefully on December 7, 2017. Born in Unterkotzau, Germany on January 2, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Johanna Gerstner Schnabel.
A hard worker all of her life, Alma worked in several different capacities. She was employed as a machinist and laborer for several different companies. In 1954 she immigrated to Canada and later the United States in 1957.
On October 23, 1948 she was united in marriage to Max K. Deeg. That union lasted 41 years until his passing on April 4, 1989. She was also predeceased by her siblings Hans and Frieda.
Alma will be remembered as being a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening and loved to crochet. For many years, she opened her home as a foster family to help those who needed a family life. Most of all she loved her family dearly, and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her children, Inge Capece and her husband Ken of Canajoharie, NY and Helmut Deeg and his wife Odilia of Schenectady, NY; six grandchildren, Vinny Capece, Christopher (Jackie) Deeg, Petra (Dave) O'Clair, Marisa Walter, Sarah (Brian) Demers, Laura Deeg; eight great grandchildren, Emily, Jenna, Isabella, Hannah, Marra, Natalie, Amelia, Evelyn; and several cousins in Germany.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Deeg's name may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
