Obituary of Gordon T. Hilly
Gordon T. Hilly, age 94, of Gloversville, died peacefully on Wednesday evening, December 13, 2017 at his home.
He was born April 4, 1923 in Gloversville, the son of Clyde and Carrie (Hanft) Hilly. He was a 1942 graduate of Gloversville High School. He later served in the US Army during World War II where he was in the invasion of New Britain, New Guinea and the Philippines.
Gordy was employed at Twin City Dry Cleaners and for many years by Collins and Reese Hardware. He was also a self-employed barber at his home.
He was married to Arlene Howland on August 12, 1950. She passed away July 2, 2012 following 62 years of marriage. Arlene was the Love of Gordy's life. He has now joined her after five years of being apart.
Gordy and Arlene loved their Siamese cats. He was also an avid New York Yankee Baseball fan and loved to watch them play on television.
He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Survivors include a nephew, Christopher M. Hilly of Fort Johnson; two nieces, Janet Nicolella of Florida and Pamela Crispino of Clifton Park; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to his wife, Gordy was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Richard Hilly and a sister, Dorothy Valachovic.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Tuesday, December 19 at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating.
Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
