Sue, So sorry to hear of Gene's passing. Gene's story is of a life well lived. He was such an honorable man, jack of all trades, a lifelong farmer, a friend to anyone who knew him no matter the age difference, a hard worker even in his 90's. He loved his family, loved to talk about his life experiences and had a fantastic memory of the history surrounding his family farm. It was always my pleasure to sit at his kitchen table and talk to him, but listening was even better. I'm going to miss him everlastingly. He's in good hands with his beloved family now. Rest in peace Gene. My sincerest condolences. Ben Cottrell

I was sad to hear that Mr. Snowicz (as I always called him) passed away. While I didn't know him well, I enjoyed the brief conversations we had over the years. He'd see me walking along the road as he was driving his truck or on his tractor, and would often stop to chat. He knew I liked birds, and he'd ask me what birds I was seeing. He also told me stories about the neighborhood and its history, like where the old cider mill was located. He referred to our house as "the upside-down house." I'll miss seeing him. My sincere condolences to his nieces. - Ellen Pemrick

Eugene, my family goes back many years. My dad, Red Crandall helped to build the front porch. My brother Don Crandall worked on the farm for many years and was treated like family by all of the brothers. As a child I remember many visits to the farm.I remember eating lunch which consisted of two slices of bread with two slices of bologna with a couple of pickles from the crock, served with milk of course. It wasn't the food that mattered. It was the hospitality from mama. The stories never stopped right up to his last breathe. So very glad to have re-connected after 60+ years. Eugene truly knew it all and he will be sorely missed by many. God speed.

So sorry that Eugene passed. He lived a long life. My wife remembers talking with him since she was little. Her mother was Julia Walkowicz which is how he knew her. I met him and his brothers when I started going with her. They were always a friend to us and would stop to talk no matter where they were. I used to get hay from Eugene and would sit in the kitchen for a time talking then get the hay under his watchful eye. He would direct me to the freshest bales. One time we stopped in with my car and he saw the antenna on the back. He was impressed that I am an amateur radio operator. I still remember him saying how he remembered his brother calling cq (that is how you make contacts), He will be missed by anyone that knew him no matter how brief.

We first met Gene in 1988 when we bought the farm directly behind the Snowicz family farm. How was quite the character and a wealth of knowledge sharing events that we would never have known about. He will be sorely missed and Sue we wish you only the best. You did a great job taking care of Gene and allowed him a peaceful ending right where he belonged, you truly were his angel.
