Obituary of Dorothy M. Auspelmyer
Dorothy M. (Kaufman) (Rogers) Auspelmyer, 95, of Amsterdam passed away on April 21, 2021 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Center, prior to this she was a resident at the Sarah Jane Sanford Home. She was born on August 4, 1925 in Amsterdam, New York, and is the daughter of the late Frank J. and Viola M. (Traver) Kaufman. Dorothy graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1943, and was then employed by the Amsterdam School District as a dietary aid where she especially enjoyed working with cerebral palsy students, and was also employed by the Walter Elwood Museum. Later Dorothy earned her LPN, and worked at the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital as a Practical Nurse for eight years, then at the Montgomery County Infirmary where she was employed for 13 years until her retirement in 1986. During her retirement Dorothy worked as Assistant to the Director of the Sarah Jane Sanford Home for eight years.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husbands, the late James Rogers Jr., and the late Fredrick Auspelmyer. She was also predeceased by her son, James F. Rogers; two sisters, Joan Kaufman, and Beverly (Kaufman) Janetsky; as well as by one brother, William Kaufman.
A devout Christian, she was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Amsterdam, as well as the Heralders Circle, Alter Guild, a member of the Wednesday Night Bible Group, member of the Rowdy Bible Study Group, and was a teacher for Sunday school. Dorothy was instrumental in the implementation of the Cub Scout Pack #60. Dorothy loved watching the NY Yankees, reading books, working on crossword puzzles, and putting puzzles together.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Linda J. (Charlie) Rogers-Cramer of Greenville, SC; her loving grandchildren, Anthony "Tony" (Carrie) Valcovic, Shelley L. (Joe) Rena, Tracey A. Rogers, Melissa M. (Nathan) Rainey; great-grandchildren, Courtney Rogers-Vasquez, James Rogers-Baer, Thomas Peck, Maxwell "Max" Rainey, and Lillian "Lily" Rainey, five great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday May 1, 2021 at 1 PM at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 42 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY, with Pastor William T. Hodgetts Jr. officiating. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY, on Friday April 30, 2021 from four o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening. Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery following services on Saturday. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required at all services.
