Obituary of Lenore Niemietz
Mrs. Lenore “Lee” Niemietz, 94, of Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on April 18, 2021, on the day of her mother Kamila’s birthday, surrounded by her family. Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 30, 1926, one of ten children, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Kamila Smitko (Rogozinski) Rogers. She is survived by one brother, Joe.
A lifelong area resident, she loved to cook for her family, was an avid reader, loved to garden and was an active member of the Montgomery County Garden Club for many years. Lee was a 1945 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch H.S. For many years she worked as a secretary and a private typist.
On November 30, 1952 she was united in marriage to H. Ralph Niemietz. Their union continued on this earth for a blessed 53 years until his passing on July 31, 2006.
Her loving family includes her children, Eric Niemietz (Linda McCann) of Saratoga, NY and Deborah (Gaspar) Niemietz-Castillo of Albany, NY; a brother Joe, sister-in-law Ginny, step granddaughter Angela (Tunde), step great grandchildren, Delancey and Aramide, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed the many visits and calls from niece Linda Blaha. She loved sitting on her porch, talking with her neighbors on the Hill with Beggar, Steve Prevendoski’s cat, on her lap. Special thanks to Chris Smith and family, Steve P and Toni Auriemma. Special mention of her life long friends Frances Rusik and Clara Olechowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche M.S., as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department.
