Obituary of Irene H. DeGroff

         Mrs. Irene H. DeGroff ,  103 , of Amsterdam , New York,   most recently of the Sarah J. Sanford Home for Women, passed away Tuesday December 19, 2017 at the EL Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam.  

     Born in Amsterdam, NY on April 23, 1914 a daughter of the late Ernest  and Emma Juedes Frank.  She was a lifelong area resident and  attended  Amsterdam High School.   Irene was employed for a time by the former Mohawk Carpet Mills and later the Greater  Amsterdam School District in the Cafeteria before her retirement.  She was very active in the former  1st Presbyterian Church in Amsterdam and later the United Presbyterian Church.  She enjoyed music and enjoyed spending time with her family and was known as a great mother-in-law..

    She married Edward F. DeGroff in 1935.   He passed away in 1979.  Irene is survived by her son, Bruce (Barbara) DeGroff of New Hampshire and Florida.  Ten grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.    She was predeceased by her  two sons, Robert DeGroff and Thomas DeGroff and one daughter, Claudia Bilecki  along with two sisters, Gertrude  and Myrtle Frank.   

    Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 9, 2018 at 11:00AM at  the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY with Rev. Dan J. Wheeler  presiding.  Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery, Amsterdam.  There are no calling hours.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association, 4 Pine West Plaza Suite #405, Albany, NY 12205 or to the United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St. Amsterdam, NY 12010.
